Our History

Founded in 1925 and originally located on Mariva Street in Pontiac, Bethel UCC has had a long standing history within the community.  With humble beginnings and a progressively growing congregation, the original church building was outgrown.

In 1964, we temporarily moved into the Wm Beaumont School while the building of our current church was in process.

Ash Wednesday, 1968, Bethel celebrated our first Worship Service in the present building and have bathed in the glory ever since.

As an Open and Affirming organization, Bethel joined the global ONA Coalition to become an all-inclusive church.

The Open and Affirming Coalition of the United Church of Christ advocates for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community in the UCC, and equips UCC congregations to become effective witnesses to Christ’s extravagant welcome.
